When I was first sent to school,
I never understood why I was going.
Slowly I realized I never had a choice
To raise my voice;
Poetry is like education
It’s good to read and listen
But difficult to write; like in the exams
Among many topics I got introduced
Were the dowry and the caste system
As I grew up I spoke to many people
And I got some rectification done
Caste is based on karma meaning work
And not by virtue of birth
I hope the schools realize this fact
Dowry is like one time capital investment
To have sex for the rest of the life
But more dowry doesn’t mean more sex
It only means you have money or you are
helpless
Your life is your wish
But please don’t bring me into a situation
where you
Take dowry and ask me to respect you
You don’t get that.
